The sixty-sixth "cheder" in the palace of Hayom Yom.

Monday, 26 Shevat 5703.

Shiurim: we are in the week of parshas Mishpatim, and on Monday - Chumash, Mishpatim, sheini, with the commentary of Rashi.

Tehillim, the 26th of the month, one says the second half of chapter 119 - from the letter mem, "Mah ahavti Torasecha", until the conclusion of the chapter with the words "lo shachachti".

Tanya, in the first part of chapter 25, from the words "v'af shehaomer" until the passage ending with the words "alav ken noda".

The daily saying is from a letter that the Rebbe Rayatz wrote in the month of Marcheshvan 5690. This letter has already come before us on 14 Shevat, in a saying taken from that very same letter, and we already spoke then at greater length about its content; now we return to the passage relevant to the daily saying. In the daily saying the Rebbe Rayatz explains the great strength and power of the quality of love, in the relationship between chassidim and the Rebbe, and in everything connected to that.

The letter speaks, as we already mentioned, of how one of the sons said to the Rebbe the Tzemach Tzedek that it is in the merit of the prayers and good wishes of the chassidim that he succeeds in such and such; and the Rebbe indeed elevated this point greatly.

In the letter it appears in Yiddish, and we will translate: "Love is the spirit of life in the avodah of chassidus" - the avodah of chassidus includes the entire avodah, but the "spirit of life" is love "the thread that binds chassidim to one another, and the thread that binds a Rebbe with chassidim and chassidim with the Rebbe" - and he explains that this is not merely a repetition, but rather "this is both in the way of "or yashar" and in the way of "or chozer"" - there is a state of "or yashar" - that the Rebbe loves the chassid, and as was discussed in the saying of 14 Shevat, that the Rebbe thinks about him and loves him - and this love affects the chassid wherever he may be, arouses him and acts upon him.

And it can also be in the manner of "or chozer" - that the chassid who thinks about the Rebbe and loves him brings about, by way of or chozer, that the Rebbe too will be aroused to think about him and to love him. These are the two directions, in or yashar and in or chozer. And he adds another sentence: "love has no partitions".

Let us quote from the letter itself. There is a passage there in Yiddish, which I will translate right away: we see tangibly that if a person has a faithful friend who loves him, then even if that faithful friend is far away, and several thousand parsaos separate between them - meaning they are at a great distance - nevertheless the beloved one is not alone. There is someone who loves him, and even if he is at the ends of the earth, he is not alone; for love has no partitions, and distance of place does not apply in a matter of love. And when one thinks of the faithful friend, this certainly gives strength to one's powers.

He speaks there further about love, and says that our holy Rebbeim, with a glance of love, draw the beloved one out of the spiritual mud, and place him in an entirely different standing and state. That is, the glance of love brings about "sur mera", to take him out of the mud, and also gives strength in the avodah of "asei tov". He elaborates on this there in the letter.

In the saying the Rebbe brings only the quotation in one sentence: "There is no partition to this at all", and he strengthens it and says "this is above the limitations of place and time" - that love is not affected by the limitations of place and time. There is no distance between the one who loves and the one who is loved in any realm; the moment there is love - even if it was yesterday or the day before or a year ago, and even if the distance today is great - neither distance of place nor distance of time has any significance. This is the strong thing, the thread that binds everyone together. This is the content of the daily saying.

What is the connection specifically to this day? Continuing with the hints, that the sayings progress according to the order of the Rambam's Yad HaChazakah, we are, in the sayings of the preceding days, in Sefer Nashim. We spoke about Hilchos Ishus, and the following halachos are Hilchos Gerushin. In Hilchos Gerushin there is the negative side of the severance between the two, and here it speaks of the positive side - of the thread that binds the two, the thread of love that binds in the strongest manner. This is the counterpart to the matter of divorce, which is the side of negation, and here the matter is on the positive side.
